Resenärer / Matkustajia / Travelers, 65x27 cm, 2019
These ongoing collection of works makes me think about transience, cycles and time. The works made of biological materials are a sort of a resumption of the gathering and sorting that often occupied me as a child. I experience a meditative mind and satisfaction when letting a stick or a pine cone slide into my backpack during my hikes in the forest, on the mountains or by the sea. Most of the materials are either from Ostrobothnia, the Aland Islands or Finnmark in northern Norway. I like to describe my sculptural works as tactile collages, and I invite anyone who is willing to gently touch the works. How does a stone or a piece of driftwood feel in your hand? The feeling of the material against my skin is something I enjoy while working with these materials.
